Setting Up Addon Domains In cPanel
The quick and short answer is:
1. Log into cPanel on the account to add the domain.
2. Click "Domains" under the "Domains" section.
3. Click the "Create A New Domain" button.
4. Enter the domain name to add in the "Domain" text box.
5. Deselect the "Share document root (/home/username/public_html) with “domain.tld”." option.
6. Enter the directory where you want the files for this domain to exist.
7. Click the "Submit" button.
8. Update your DNS to point at your Webfoundr DNS servers!
This can be a very cost-effective way to provide hosting to more than one of your websites. The main downside is that all domains share a common cPanel. This means, if you're setting up hosting for someone besides yourself, you can only give them "master access" to the cPanel. As of now, cPanel doesn't allow the creation of multiple admin users.
Additionally, if you're using a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, it's VERY important to keep everything updated such as the core files, themes, and plugins.
The top reason we observe accounts being compromised is the use of outdated software that enables intruders to take over the entire cPanel. Just one outdated plugin/theme/WordPress can create issues for all domains within the account.
This is the main reason I am reluctant to utilize this method, especially if you do not plan on logging in regularly to manage updates. Nonetheless, if you are ensuring your accounts are up to date, this is a fantastic way to add extra domains and content to your Webfoundr account!
