Do you need to generate new keys so you can connect to your account via SSH or some other application like gitlab?

There are 2 ways:

  • The first method in this article is for generating the key pairs in cpanel.

  • The second way is generating them on local computer (PC)  and importing them into cpanel. The second method using PuttyGen can be found here>

Step 1: Login to your cPanel account.

Step 2: Once logged into your cPanel account, find the 'SSH Access' icon:

Step 3: Now click on Manage SSH Keys

Step 4: If you are using cPanel to generate the keys, (1st method discussed here) Use the Generate a New Key button. If you are using the 2nd method where either you have already generated a keypair and need to import them see this link.

We recommend using the password generator for strong random passwords.

Step 5: Once you generate they keys, you still have to authorize it! Click on Manage to the right.

Step 6: On the next page, click on Authorize. That's it!
